Ilse Bing
Ilse Bing (1899- 1998, German) left her hometown of Frankfurt and her studies in art history to pursue photography in Paris, where she spent most of the 1930s. Reflecting on that time, she remarked, 'In Paris, I truly became myself.' Bing quickly made a name for herself by supplying the growing French picture press with fashion and social documentary photographs. Her skill with the lightweight, unobtrusive camera earned her the title 'Queen of the Leica.'
