Photographer Steve Schapiro, who died at 87 on Jan. 15, documented many important moments in the fight for civil rights, including the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, and the Selma to Montgomery marches of 1965.
His memorable images of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. showcased the power and passion of the civil rights movement of the 1950s and 1960s. Many of those photographs were included in James Baldwin's iconic The Fire Next Time, an account of the civil rights movement.
