My personal style signifiers are tuxedo shirts and vintage Levi’s 501s – that’s my uniform when I’m shooting. I’ve bought 501s all through my life; I’ve still got ones that I had in my early 20s, I never let go of them. Is there an age threshold on jeans? Christ no. We’re going to be epic at 80, in our 501s. Most of my jeans are vintage, even though I’m not a vintage girl because I’ve got a real concern about who wore them last before me. I overthink it. It’s not even about hygiene. But I get into the spirit. What if the person who wore these before is a bad one? Vintage clothes should carry labels about the previous owner: “Formerly owned by a responsible lady who was really kind to her dogs. Loved everyone.” That’s what mine would say.
