HENRO is the newest book by Dutch fine art photographer Bastiaan Woudt. The project originated during a journey across the Japanese island of Shikoku, where Woudt and his brother followed the ancient Shikoku Henro pilgrimage route, a circular path linking 88 Buddhist temples through mountains, forests, and coastal landscapes.
The images that emerged are not a travelogue, but fragments of an experience. Photographs that resist explanation and carry the atmosphere of memory or dream rather than documentation.
Published by 1605 Collective, HENRO is not a conventional photobook but a carefully considered object, where image, white space, and silence interact on the page. The photographs appear without captions, inviting a personal interpretation.
The book launches on 27 March 2026, alongside the world premiere of the HENRO exhibition at Studio Woudt in Alkmaar, the Netherlands.
